Adam Goodes made a successful return to team training on Friday morning, with the dual Brownlow medallist taking part in the majority of the session at the SCG.

Goodes completed handball drills with Kurt Tippett, Sam Reid and Tommy Walsh and ran laps at speed early, before joining with the main group for kicking and match-play drills.

The 34-year-old moved well throughout and was met with cheers from his team mates when he gathered and kicked the ball in his first drill in almost three months.

Speaking to SwansTV about completing his first team training session since January, Goodes said it felt good to finally be back on the track.

“It was great to be back out there with the boys,” Goodes said.

“It’s been about seven months since the last time I was out on the SCG training with the team like that at full pace, so it was great to be back out there.

“You miss the small things when you’re out for that long, like the banter in the warm-up and the encouragement and I suppose just the mateship when you are out there.

“Compared to working in the ‘dungeon’ or the altitude room by yourself versus being out there with your mates, it was a lot more enjoyable and it was good to get through.”

Goodes endured an injury-riddled season in 2013, with the champion Swan missing the second half of the season after injuring his knee in the club’s round 13 loss to Port Adelaide.

Prior to his injury, Goodes was in red-hot form for the Swans with terrific performances against Collingwood and Essendon.

After taking a cautious approach to his rehabilitation over the pre-season, the Swans’ games record holder said his knee was feeling strong and he hoped he could return to the field sooner rather than later.

“The knee feels great,” Goodes said.

“It feels really good and I’ve been slowly building up to this point in time and we’ll continue to do that for the next couple of weeks and see where we’re at.

“Hopefully I can then get out and play some footy on the weekend.”
