Kurt Tippett and Lance Franklin have both pulled up well following the Sydney Swans’ 19-point win over Hawthorn on Friday night at ANZ Stadium.

Tippett, who battled knee tendonitis and a cracked rib, booted four goals in his first game for the season, while Franklin kicked two goals after missing the previous match with knee soreness.

Speaking to SwansTV for the HCF Injury Update, club physiotherapist Matt Cameron said both players had recovered well from the hit out.

“They both pulled up really well,” Cameron said.

“Tippett played 100 minutes, which having not played for a long time could have ended up with him being quite sore, but he pulled up pretty well and his knee pulled up pretty well.

“We’re really pleased going into this week with him.

“’Buddy’ fell on his knee a couple of times during the game, but it didn’t stir up the bruising that he’s had.

“We think we’re over the hump with that too.”

Ruckman Mike Pyke will require another week to recover from a hamstring strain suffered in the Swans’ round seven win over the Brisbane Lions.

Cameron said Pyke would resume running this week, and should make his return following the Swans’ round ten bye.

“He’s started running, but we’ve got a few steps to take before he can start training,” he said.

“We’ve got to build his running from jogging to sprinting, and it’s not that he’s unfit, but he needs to take things one step at a time so we don’t stir things up.

“He’s on track now for the next game.

“The bye gives him an extra week to get stronger and take our time.”

In other injury news, Cameron said that Tommy Walsh had made a successful return for the Swans reserves on Friday afternoon, after missing nearly 12 months of football with a hamstring tear.

“It’s been nearly 12 months since he ruptured his hamstring and he’s had a really, really long preparation,” Cameron said.

“He was fully prepared when he went into the game and has pulled up really well and had no secondary issues.

“His hammy is feeling good, so we’ll just start to try and string games and training weeks together.”
