Kennedy on the mend
Josh Kennedy is making progress from his tight hamstring and will look to have a run later in the week
The midfielder, who was subbed out of the game at the beginning of the second term, has shown good signs since returning to the club on Monday and is expected to resume running later this week.
Speaking to SwansTV for the HCF Injury Update, club physiotherapist Matt Cameron said all signs were looking positive for the 26-year-old.
“Josh Kennedy just tightened up in that first quarter and we didn’t want to chance him any longer,” Cameron said.
“He’s got a little bit of fluid right on the outside of his lower hamstring muscle on his non-kicking leg.
“We’ll just see how he goes.
“He looks pretty good even today and we’ll look to run him later this week.
“We’ll work out if that’s tomorrow or Thursday, and we’ll see how he is by Friday.”
Craig Bird is also on track with his recovery from a knee injury sustained in Saturday’s win, with the midfielder already back in the gym.
Cameron said it was likely Bird would miss just one week with the injury.
“Craig Bird had some contact at the front of his shin and as a result, he’s injured his posterior cruciate ligament in his knee, which is not the bad cruciate that we all know,” he said.
“But it does mean that he’s going to be out this week.
“His knee has settled down pretty quickly and he’s moving well and he’s been able to do some weights in the gym and we’ll reassess things next week and see how he’s feeling with regards to training and so on.”
Cameron confirmed that Sam Reid would also be monitored this week ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs after jarring his hip against the Saints.
“Sam just landed a bit awkwardly on the far wing and he jarred his hip slightly,” he said.
“He’s a little bit sore, but it’s a longer week, so we’ll see how he’s feeling on Friday and whether he’s able to train.”
Midfielder Ben McGlynn is set to miss Sunday’s match with the calf strain which saw him unable to take the field against St Kilda.
Cameron said McGlynn was making progress in his recovery and should hopefully be available for the club’s round 23 clash with Richmond.
“Ben is coming along well and he’s getting ready to run,” Cameron said.
“We probably won’t run him until Friday, which means he’s going to be out again this week, but things are looking really good for him playing next week.”
There was better news for defenders Nick Smith and Rhyce Shaw, with the pair likely to be available for this weekend’s match.
“Nick was very, very close to playing and he’s been able to train fully so far this week, so he looks certain to play,” Cameron said.
“Rhyce’s ankle unfortunately didn’t quite make it last week, but he’s resumed running and whilst he mightn’t do all the team session tomorrow, we expect him to train Friday and to be available.”
