Swans youngster Isaac Heeney is tracking well in his recovery from a knee injury and should return following the Swans’ Round 12 bye.
Heeney has been sidelined for three weeks after straining his posterior cruciate ligament against Melbourne.
The Swans will take a break over the June 12-14 weekend and the 19-year-old is expected to be available the following the week.
“Isaac is back running which is good because he hasn’t had any complications in his recovery,” General Manager of Football Tom Harley said in this week’s HCF Injury Update.
“We have obviously got a bye coming up in a couple of weeks and it is fair to say we will be taking a fairly conservative approach with Isaac and won’t be rushing him back.
“The early signs are that he is tracking really well which is really pleasing.”
Heeney enjoyed a strong start to his senior career after breaking into the side for the club’s season opener against Essendon.
A string of solid performances led to the QBE Academy product earn a Rising Star Nomination in the week following his four goals against GWS in Round 3.
In more positive news, key defender Alex Johnson is continuing to overcome an infection in his knee ahead of further surgery later in the year.
“Alex is one that is continuing to recover and things are going well for him,” Harley said.
“He is recovering well from an infection in his knee and all things being equal he will have another reconstruction in that knee during mid-August.”
Zak Jones (knee), Lloyd Perris (knee) and Lewis Melican (groin) will all miss this weekend’s NEAFL trip to Newcastle.
Jones has a mild knee complaint that is not expected to sideline him for more than the next fortnight with Perris also two to three weeks away from a return.
Harley said a more ‘cautious’ approach would be taken with the rehabilitation of Lewis Melican who continues to suffer soreness in his groin.
