Star forward Lance Franklin has overcome his first hurdle as he looks to take on St Kilda on Sunday afternoon after getting through training on Tuesday afternoon.
Franklin has played just one game in the last five weeks as he has battled a back injury that has restricted his movement.
The 28-year-old looked to move freely during the session lasting just over an hour and including match simulation drills.
General Manager of Football Tom Harley said the medical staff would assess how Franklin recovered before he looked to train on Friday.
“Lance trained full which is great news,” Harley told the HCF injury update.
“It was great to see him running around doing the full session and he will do that again on Friday.
In further good news midfielder Tom Mitchell (eye) looks set to return to the field after being given the all clear from his specialist.
Mitchell was initially expected to miss the next fortnight but has recovered better than expected and is in line to take on the Saints if he can get through training on Friday.
Gary Rohan will wait until Friday’s training sessions to test his fitness as he looks to return from a knee injury that forced him to miss last week’s clash against the Giants.
Returning from a hamstring strain Rohan put in a strong performance against Collingwood in Round 20 despite injuring his knee in the opening minutes of the game.
“Gary and Tom did some running, not so much ball skills but both got through that really well and will train with a view to joining the group on Friday,” Harley said.
“The view is that they would then be able to put their hand up for selection for Sunday.”
Ben McGlynn is on track to make a return this weekend after missing a number of weeks with a hamstring strain but must get through the session on Friday.
