QBE Sydney Swans Academy product Sam Wicks has joined Sydney as a Category B Rookie.
The 19-year-old was this season part of the Academy’s NEAFL Development Squad and excelled as a small forward.
The NEAFL Development Squad provides mature-aged players advanced development and playing opportunities within the senior Swans program, as well as a pathway to the AFL after their initial Draft year.
Manly local Wicks averaged 15 disposals, four tackles and one goal per game in the NEAFL this season.
Swans General Manager – Recruiting & List Strategy Kinnear Beatson says it’s great to have welcomed another Academy graduate on to the Club’s AFL list.
“Sam’s a crafty small forward who has really come along as a footballer in recent years and will complement our emerging group of goal-kickers,” Beatson said.
“While Sam missed out on being drafted last year, he has been a real contributor in the NEAFL and a key member of our NEAFL Development Squad.
“Sam’s story is a great reminder to other Academy members about the value of hard work and commitment and reinforces the importance of our Academy program.”
