Sydney Swans AFLW senior coach Colin O’Riordan has confirmed his side to face Essendon in this Sunday’s upcoming Round 2 clash at the SCG.

Following last week’s thrilling season opener victory over the Adelaide Crows, O'Riordan has been forced to make one change with defender Lulu Pullar ruled out through a shoulder injury.

QBE Sydney Swans Academy product Molly Thomas will make her debut, while Paris McCarthy will play her 25th AFLW game.

"Lulu had a really strong game for us last weekend against Adelaide, so it's really disappointing to lose Lulu," O'Riordan said.

"But the silver lining is Molly Thomas gets to make her debut which is really exciting and a really amazing story. 

"She came through the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, crafted her work there for six years and to get her chance to debut on the SCG is really exciting for her and her whole family. We are really excited to see what Molly can do this weekend."

"Molly is quite a versatile player," O'Riordan added. 

"She's done a lot of work in pre-season down back, but she's also done a little bit inside and on the wing. We're pretty comfortable that Molly can play a range of positions and she's a really tough contested player and really versatile.

The Swans rallied for a thrilling victory over the Adelaide Crows at Unley Oval last week and O'Riordan said the side will take plenty of confidence from the season opening victory.

"To go down there and beat Adelaide on their home patch, I think it's the first time they've ever lost on their oval so that's a credit to our group," O'Riordan said.

"The way we came back in the last quarter, it's really god to see and it shows the level of grit and desire in our group.

"We looked like a team that didn't want to lose and I think if we can bottle that last quarter this week and bring our pressure and our contest early, hopefully we are on the right end of the result."
