The Sydney Swans have secured pick 14 in the National Draft after agreeing to a deal to send Tom Mitchell to Hawthorn.

It will be the first time the Club has entered the draft with two first round picks (14 and 17) since 2009.

Pick 14 proved to be an important pick back in 2009 with premiership forward Lewis Jetta recruited to the Club.

Jetta went on to become a pivotal member of the Swans 2012 premiership as the leading goalkicker that season playing across half forward.

The speedy forward was eventually traded to West Coast at the end of the 2015 season due to wanting to return to his home state of Western Australia.

The Swans have only held selection 14 on one other occasion, in 1996 they chose ruckman Brett O’Farrell.

O’Farrell would go on to play just 12 games in the red and white before being traded to Hawthorn at the end of the 1998 season as an understudy to Paul Salmon.

Former North Melbourne captain Adam Simpson and Hawthorn star forward Nick Holland are two names that stand out among the players selected at 14 in the National Draft.

Both would go on to have illustrious careers for their respective clubs with Simpson going on to become the current Senior Coach of the West Coast Eagles.

Grant Birchall, Cam McCarthy, Jake Lever and Devon Smith are some of the more modern names to have been called out on draft night when selection 14 comes around.
