Swans coach Paul Roos had every reason to be pleased after their win over Richmond but also one reason to be very angry.

The coaching staff walked up to their box before the game only to find the phones to the bench were not working which caused plenty of confusion late in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line.

"We got up to the coaching box and there was no communications which is just inexcusable," Roos said.

"We had blokes working five minutes before the bounce trying to fix them which is just ridiculous - professional football, it is inexcusable."

The Swans then had to use their own communications used in country games.

"It was lucky that we had our own back-up which we normally use for country games, like Narranderra in the pre-season or what have you," Roos added.

"It is appalling that the MCG can't provide some communications. Richmond had theirs and we didn't have ours.

"In the last quarter our communication went down, because we were not prepared to use them, so our bench couldn't hear, I couldn't hear, no-one could hear.

"So I had to come down and coach from the bench for the last 10-15 minutes of the game as the runners couldn’t hear what we were saying so it caused some pandemonium."
