Sydney Swans operations specialist Emily Chandler has been named as the inaugural Dean Moore Award winner. The news was announced at the 2024 AFLW Club Champion Dinner last Thursday evening.
Speaking to Sydney Swans Media following the presentation, Chandler said she was humbled by the recognition.
“I just feel so honoured and proud to have been standing up there when there was such an elite group of people that were also nominated,” she shared.
“Mark [White], Stephanie [Maiolo] and Jack [Giles] are incredible in the work they do and the people they are. To be up with them and to win it is unreal.”
Working closely with the sales team, her core role incorporates expanding opportunities for the broader business. Chandler was also a key contributor to the Kick the Habit program in West Arnhem land last month.
“In the operations team, we're so lucky to work with every department. I get to connect with everyone across the business, commercially and football-wise.
“I had the privilege to work on [the Kick the Habit program] and get to work alongside Jarred [Hodges] and the different communities and organisations that were involved. That was a highlight; to see that through and go to Maningrida.”
The Dean Moore Award was established in April 2024 to recognise a Sydney Swans staff member who has best embodied the club’s values. A staff member is peer nominated each quarter.
Dean Moore – whom the award is named after – served as the club’s team manager in the late 1970s and managed the logistics of South Melbourne’s move to Sydney in 1981. After a stint with the then VFL, Moore returned to Sydney to replace Andrew Ireland as General Manager – Football at the end of the 2009 season.
