The Sydney Swans used the 2015 AFL Trade Period as an opportunity to improve its overall draft position via the exchanging of draft selections.

With a number of Academy and Father-Son prospects on the horizon, the club used the trade period as an opportunity to increase the cumulative value of picks.

“We have a net gain of 235 points so we know that we have moved forward in the draft and our position has improved,” General Manager of Football Tom Harley explained.

“You don’t know what you are dealing with until a bid is put forward for an Academy player or a potential Father-Son.

“What it has done is put a definitive value on picks and the clubs have been able to orchestrate trades to benefit what they want to do,”

Harley said the club’s list management team would now sit down and assess its options ahead of the National Draft on November 24 in Adelaide.

“We have a list management meeting on Monday and I am sure most clubs would be doing the same,” he said.

“We are obviously invested in it because we have an Academy and we know what we are dealing with as we are doing it so it worked in our favour.

“The first list lodgement is at the end of the month so we will canvass all the potential opportunities.”

The Swans will enter next month’s AFL Draft with picks 33, 36, 37, 44, 54, 69, 72, 90 and 108.
