THE SWANS’ injury woes could lead to opportunities for younger squad members with development coach Brett Allison confirming that 21-year-old Ryan Brabazon is “knocking the door down” for selection.

“He’s certainly well in the discussion for this week’s team but we’ll have to wait and see,” Allison said.

“He’s had two years now at the club and he’s been playing some really consistent football at reserves level.”

The Swans reserves are now third on the AFL Canberra ladder and Brabazon isn’t the only young player making an impression.

“Patrick Veszpremi, who’s a medium goal kicking forward, has certainly shown that he has the ability to play at senior level but it’s his endurance that’s holding him back. He has done a fair bit of work on that over the past six or seven weeks and is now getting to the stage that he will seriously, if his form stands up, be considered for selection.

“Jesse White who debuted earlier in the year has also been in some good form over the past couple of weeks as well.”

As for players hoping to return to the seniors, Jared Crouch, who has been struggling to recover from a calf injury, is likely to be available for selection after this weekend.

“He has about one more week in the reserves and if he comes through it injury free, his name will certainly come up at the selection table.”

Allison has also been impressed with the form of the Swans’ Irish recruit Brendan Murphy, who in his first season at the club has certainly developed physically.

“He’s put on 10 kilos since he got here. We’re grooming him as a key position defender and he’s more than holding his own at reserves level at the moment.

“There’s every indication that he’s certainly capable of playing senior football skill wise and fitness wise but it will probably be next season. You wouldn’t see a more dedicated player on our list with the sacrifices he’s made and the work he’s putting in so it’s all paying off for him at the moment.”
