The Bloods culture encompasses many traits, one of which includes the feeling that you are part of much more than a footy club, you’re part of a family. It stretches far beyond the walls of the SCG, and in the case of Joshua Jones it takes us to the other side of the country in Western Australia.

Eight-year-old Joshua suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to alterations of a protein called dystrophin that helps keep muscles intact. Children with DMD have difficulty running, jumping, walking and long term it affects the heart and respiratory system.

Earlier this year, the Swans heard of Joshua’s story and in the lead up to their Round 10 clash against Fremantle in May, the club invited Joshua and his family to meet the team at Optus Stadium

After witnessing the touching scenes from the Swans Captain's Run, President of the Western Australian Swans Supporters Club Darryl Sommerville decided to take the support for Joshua and the Jones family a step further.

With the help of local businesses, the WA Swans Supporters club held a fundraiser event on Sunday September 19, featuring a block buster raffle with 25 prizes ranging from weekend accommodation at resorts in Perth, to countless gift vouchers and activities.

Further adding to the support - former Swans captain Kieran Jack not only sent a personal video message and training jumper to Joshua, but also donated one of his match worn jumpers to the auction which he would later personalise for the lucky winner.

The event was a huge success – with a total of $10,000 raised! Congratulations to the WA Swans Supporters club for throwing such a successful fundraiser, and helping Joshua and the Jones family take crucial steps towards receiving much-needed drugs in their fight against DMD.
