Darrell Foxley had always followed the Parramatta Eels and his younger brother Mathew the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

They had lived and breathed one of the fiercest rivalries in rugby league from the moment they could pick up a footy.

So it was perfectly fitting that Mathew – seeing as his brother had long supported the Sydney Swans – fell in love with GWS from the moment the Giants entered the AFL.

Darrell and Mathew will both be in the Giants Stadium stands as Sydney and GWS collide in Sydney Derby XVIII on Saturday afternoon, a clash sure to once again polarise the Harbour City.

Darrell says the brotherly rivalry is real.

“There’s always been a healthy rivalry between Parramatta and Canterbury in the rugby league,” Darrell told Swans Media.

“So when GWS came on the scene in the AFL my brother automatically locked on to them just as a means of stimulating a further rivalry between us. When GWS came in my brother immediately started following them just to niggle me.

“I would love the Swans to win on Saturday so I can give it to my brother, and also not have to cop it from him until we play again.”
