Today is World Teacher's Day, the chance to formally celebrate the hard work and dedication of teachers across the globe.
The Sydney Swans would like to acknowledge the work that all teachers do, particularly over the past two years which has been incredibly challenging during the pandemic.
Sydney Swans fan and Western Australian based teacher, Hannah Girling has amassed a large Instagram following over recent years, showcasing all the things she does in her Year 4 classroom in Perth through the account @missgirlingsclassroom.
There is often a distinct footy flavour to her posts and despite being outnumbered by West Coast and Fremantle fans over in the west, she proudly dons the red and white and preaches all things Sydney Swans to her pupils.
Hannah's love for the Swans comes from her father who comes from Harry Cunningham country, in South Eastern NSW.
"My dad is a diehard, passionate Swans supporter who was born in Wagga Wagga and I followed him to barracking for Sydney too," Hannah said.
Whenever the team head west she is always at the ground cheering the team on.
Hannah often uses football themed activities in her classroom from maths to art.
"I incorporate footy through a class footy competition which we use in maths to graph results and make tables," Hannah said.
"We also design our own footy jumpers and have 'Footy Friday' as a school to raise money for charities."
Hannah's favourite part of teaching is building relationships with students and seeing them succeed.
"It is so rewarding watching them grow in confidence and self belief," she said.
We thank Hannah and all teachers around the world for all their work educating the next generation and also for bringing that little bit of red and white to a classroom close to 4000km away from the SCG!
