The Sydney Swans have selected Western Australian midfielder Angus Sheldrick with pick 18 in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.
Eighteen-year-old Sheldrick is a competitive, contested ball winning inside midfielder who played a leading role at Colts level with Claremont in 2021, winning the best and fairest.
In the WAFL Colts Grand Final, Sheldrick was a standout gathering 27 disposals and booting two goals.
The Swans original pick 16 was pushed back to 18 following the father-son bids for Sam Darcy and Nick Daicos.
Sheldrick joins a growing list of West Australian’s at the Swans led by Lance Franklin and rising stars Logan McDonald and Chad Warner.
Sydney Swans National Recruiting Manager Simon Dalrymple described Sheldrick as a contested ball bull.
“He is a real power athlete, who is very competitive,” Dalrymple said.
“He had an interrupted preseason and then improved markedly as the year went on, and he just kept getting better. He had an outstanding grand final in the Colts and then was best on ground for WA in the last nationals game.
“Angus is a great a leader around his school and I think he will absolutely thrive in the AFL environment.
“We see him as the right player, at the right pick for our club,” he said.
