John Longmire said the Sydney Swans won’t be looking any further ahead than this weekend’s clash against the West Coast Eagles, despite posting a tenth consecutive victory on Saturday night.

The Swans 46-point win over GWS, which helped the club to their longest winning streak since 1935, elevated the side into equal top spot on the AFL table, behind Hawthorn and Port Adelaide on percentage alone.

Speaking to the media at the SCG on Monday afternoon, Longmire said while the Swans were pleased with their efforts over the last ten rounds, this week’s match in Perth was their sole focus.

“It’s good to be winning and have a bit of momentum behind us,” the coach said.

“It’s a good thing that we’ve been able to be competitive for a good stretch of the season to date and we know we need to keep doing that.

“It’s a matter of keeping going now and it’s a pretty relentless competition, and we just want to win this week for starters.

“We go to Perth this week and it’s not an easy trip.

“We head over there and we play the West Coast Eagles who just got rolled by seven points against Fremantle, so that’s what our focus will be this week.”

The club will take an extended squad west this week when they leave on Thursday, which is likely to include West Australian ruckman Tom Derickx, who was the non-playing emergency for Saturday night’s win over GWS.

With West Coast boasting a host of talented ruckman, including Dean Cox, Nic Naitanui, as well as rising stars Scott Lycett and Callum Sinclair, Longmire said Derickx could come into the selection equation this week.

“That’s a discussion we’ll have as we go over to Perth,” he said.

“I’m sure we’ll take a couple of ruckman to Perth and it’s just a matter of who we play over there.

“We’ve seen West Coast’s ruck stocks and they are very strong.

“They’ve probably got four senior ruckman on their list that can play at any one time, who are all high quality ruckman as well.

“We’ll have a discussion about what we think might work for us this week and have a look at what’s worked for us in the past over there and see how the week progresses.”

The coach confirmed that co-captain Kieren Jack would be fit to play this week after suffering a heavy hit late in Saturday night’s game against GWS.

“We expect all of our players to be fine, and Kieren was okay today,” he said.

“We expect all of the players to be available for this week.”
