TAC Cup team the Oakleigh Chargers have been good to the Swans in recent years.

First came Nick Smith via the 2007 Rookie Draft, followed by 2010 AFL Rising Star Dan Hannebery, and then came one of the great success stories of 2011, Alex Johnson.

Alex Brown is the latest player to arrive at the Swans from the Chargers after he was selected with pick 61 in the recent AFL Draft.

When SwansTV spoke to the 18-year old on Tuesday morning, it was clear he was still buzzing.

“It’s very exciting and a bit new, but I’m getting used to it,” he said. “All the boys are really welcoming, which is great, and I can’t wait to get stuck into it.”

“I was very excited when my name was called out. My family went crazy and I was just a bit shocked and just soaked it all up.”

Brown arrived in Sydney on Sunday and has moved in with Dan Hannebery and Gary Rohan.

After undergoing a minor hip operation in the off-season, Brown has been forced to take in his new surrounds on crutches, but will commence some training next week.

Brown says neither he, nor his family had any apprehension about him making the move to Sydney.  Despite arriving in a new home town, there are a few familiar faces around the traps.

Brown spent a season playing with Johnson at Oakleigh, and three of his best mates have landed at cross-town rival, GWS, in the Draft.

“Alex was the skipper of Oakleigh when I was a bottom-age player there,” he recalled. “He is a great bloke, he has a very loud voice and got around the boys very easily.”

“A few of my mates from Oakleigh - Adam Tomlinson, Dom Tyson and Toby Greene - are good boys and will be having fun [at GWS] together. I’m very happy for them.”

Brown is not unlike Johnson in stature. He stands at 191cm tall and weighs in at 78 kilograms and describes himself as a versatile back or wingman, who likes to run and deliver the ball.
