Sydney Swans co-captain Dane Rampe said he’s looking forward to seeing the McCartin brothers in action together in Saturday night's match against crosstown rival Greater Western Sydney.
Earlier in the week Sydney coach John Longmire confirmed Paddy McCartin is poised to make his debut in the red and white in the clash at Accor Stadium, where he’s likely to play alongside younger brother Tom in Sydney’s backline.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s training session, Rampe said the addition of the elder McCartin gives the side some flexibility.
“The great thing about Paddy, and possibly something we have lacked, is that he is a genuine marking defender. He complements Tommy (McCartin) really well and I guess it may mean that I don’t have to play outside has much as I have in the past,” Rampe said
“Paddy gives us some versatility down back, obviously against the big fellas, and he can go for marks and intercepts as well. I think he provides a really nice balance for our team.
“Tom McCartin is developing really nicely and he’s going to be a great key defender for many years to come, so I’m looking forward to seeing the McCartin one-two punch.”
Meanwhile all eyes have been on Lance Franklin as he shoots for the 1000-goal club.
Franklin is just five goals away from the history-making milestone, and Rampe said he hopes there will be more Franklin goals to come in 2023.
"I'd be pretty surprised actually if he wasn't around next year but I know he's said he wants to wait and see how his body holds up. At this stage he is as hungry and as excited as ever so fingers crossed I'll be running around with him next year as well," he said.
