GARY Rohan tells sydneyswans.com.au about his debut game against Geelong, his mentor Tadhg Kennelly, and who is faster over 100m - himself or Lewis Jetta...

What was the best part of the year for you personally, and in a team sense?

Personally it was making my debut against Geelong. I set goals at the start of the year and one of them was to play a senior game, so that was my best achievement. I have played nine senior games in my first year so I’m rapt about that.
Then in the team sense, making the finals was the best thing.

Which team-mate was the standout for you in 2010?
Tadhg Kennelly is my mentor and he helped me out a lot. At the end of the year I started playing backline because he was out injured and I filled his spot. So he was teaching me and when we had to go through the opposition analysis he would sit with me and help me with that.

In terms of a standout player on the field, I’d say Benny McGlynn. He came from a different club to the Swans and then knew his role and had a great year. And then to fracture his cheekbone and come back in the final, and he still kept his head over the ball and everything. He was great.

What will you work on over the pre-season and where can you get better next year?
My body size. I need to try to get bigger so I can push off my opponent more. I need to get bigger but keep my speed as well.

And the big question this year - who is faster over 100 metres, you or Lewis Jetta?
I’ve got him for sure! No worries there. He might get me over 20 metres and I’m pretty sure he’d get me over 400 metres, but I reckon I’d get him in a 100 or a 200 metre race.

Where are you off to in the holidays?
I’m going home to Cobden for most of it, but I’m also going to Bali for a week with a couple of the boys in October after the best and fairest.

And overall how was the year?
It was great for my first year and it will get better. I struggled at first living in Sydney but I’m loving it now.
