Gold Coast has delivered Sydney its second loss in as many weeks, defeating the Swans by 14-points at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.

The Suns were the better side for much of the match but had to withstand a tense final quarter before triumphing 10.15 (75) to 8.13 (61) on Saturday afternoon.

However a slow start to the clash and a lack of energy and intensity was crucial.

Longmire's side trailed by 14-points after the first term before both teams kicked three majors in the second quarter with the away side holding a 17-point lead at the half time break.

"We didn't match the energy that the Gold Coast had early in particular," Longmire said.

"We just didn't have that energy early in the game and you have to make sure you match your opposition with that level of intensity. We just took a long time to get going."

The Swans have consistently had a slow start to their games in 2022, something Longmire acknowledged.

However, the head coach was not making any excuses.

"Their wingers did some real damage on us, particularly early in the game and their midfield in general, to their credit (they lost Anderson before the game), they were able to play really well," Longmire said.

"We have spoken about it [slow starts this season], and we are trying to do some things in the lead up. We have had numerous six day breaks, so we will look at that and what we do training wise during the week, but it’s not an excuse. Ultimately, whatever you do during the week, you have to come to compete first up."

"Last week I thought we did that, we just didn’t execute. But overall, in general sense, we have to get out of the blocks better no doubt."

The loss to the Swans sees the Swans suffer back-to-back defeats and now hold a 5-3 record.

Longmire says it was a reminder of the consistency required each week.

"Not so much the belief, it’s about the reality of how hard the competition is," Longmire said.

"tt’s tough, there are no quarters given, and you have to be at that level every quarter and every game. You cant afford to sit back and wait and see what the opposition have got, you have to get on the front foot.

"You don’t need a reminder that the competition is tough, but it is the facts, it is challenging and you have to make sure you are on top of your game all the time."
