Sydney to turn pink
The Pink Lady will return to Sydney this year, with the Breast Cancer Network Australia’s Field of Women set to hit ANZ Stadium in round 20
Ahead of the Sydney Swans clash with Collingwood on August 10, 15,000 people wearing pink ponchos will stand together on ANZ Stadium in the shape of BCNA’s Pink Lady, to represent the number of women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
125 men in blue ponchos will also take the field to represent the men affected by breast cancer, either directly or in support of a family member or friend.
This year will be the second time the Pink Lady has been formed at a Swans game, with the BCNA bringing the Field of Women to the then Telstra Stadium in 2007 at the Sydney versus St Kilda clash. The AFL has also previously supported the event at the MCG in 2005 and 2010.
The purpose of the Field of Women is to bring the statistics of breast cancer to light in a meaningful and visually powerful way. The field-length sized Pink Lady highlights the personal impact of the disease in Australia.
Tickets to take part in the Field of Women will include a poncho, ticket to the Swans v Magpies match and public transport to the stadium on metropolitan trains. Tickets will go on-sale at a later date; however people wanting to register their interest in attending the Field of Women event can do so at www.bcna.org.au.
All funds raised will go towards supporting the Breast Cancer Network Australia important mission to inform, empower, represent and link together Australians personally affected by breast cancer.
