Sydney still has no return date for superstar forward Lance Franklin's 300th game, but the club has confirmed that ruckman Callum Sinclair's season is over.

Meanwhile, in more positive news for the Swans, injury-plagued big man Sam Naismith is expected to play in the NEAFL this week, in what will be his first competitive game of footy since 2017.

Franklin hasn't been seen since he strained his hamstring against Hawthorn in round 14 and while the Swans initially thought he'd be ready to face Geelong this week, he's still unable to train.

The four-time Coleman medallist has played just nine games this year because of groin and hamstring issues.

Last week, coach John Longmire ruled the 32-year-old out of the Cats clash, and on Monday said he's also unlikely to be ready to take on Greater Western Sydney in round 20.

"He's still a little bit sore so we've got to make sure we get him right," he said.

"He's been able to run but he's not out there training with us yet, and that’s the most important part.

"We need him out there to be resilient enough to not get injured again."

Sinclair was always a long shot to get back this season after dislocating his left shoulder twice in the Swans' win over Gold Coast at the SCG in round 15.

The Swans took a punt on a strength program in a bid to help the 29-year-old, but eventually decided that surgery was needed.

"It was taking a little bit longer to get right than we'd hoped," Longmire said.

"The timeline was closing, in regards to him being available for senior selection this year, so we made a call last week."

Naismith tore his ACL at training in March last year, and after overcoming some further complications with the knee, has been training solidly for the past month.

Longmire said the Swans didn't consider resting Naismith for the rest of 2019 and he's still a chance to get back to senior level this season if he has no further setbacks.

He will play limited minutes against Brisbane in the reserves on Sunday and will be a huge boost for the Swans if he can get back, with Aliir Aliir, Sam Reid, Hayden McLean and Robbie Fox handling the ruck duties since Sinclair went down.

"After you've missed as much football as Sam has, you need to get playing again," Longmire said.

"He's played 28 games in six years and has had nearly a couple of years out of the game.

"He's really looking forward to getting out there and he's motivated to play AFL footy again."
