Once upon a time, footy was something you’d play in winter on a large oval with 17 teammates. Now, thanks to innovative social versions of the game, you can play all year round, on smaller fields, without having to train, and with teams as small as nine players!

AFL X and AFL 9s has relaunched for spring, with registrations for competitions across NSW filling fast.

But what is AFL X and AFL 9s!?

AFL X (ages U10-U14)

AFL X is fast and fun, and one of the best sports for boys and girls aged 8-14. It requires everything of a player – athleticism, skill, game sense, bravery and teamwork – and is over in under an hour on a weeknight.

Parents will love the format, which gives their kids plenty of access to the play, regardless of previous experience. Players will love how it sharpens skills, develops a love of the game, and grows friendships.

Anyone can get involved in AFL X. All you have to do is register and turn up to play. The uniforms will be there, the fixtures sorted and the results impermanent. You can either register as a team or an individual. (Individuals will be allocated a team filled with other free agents.)

Each session sees teams play matches with 3x12-minute thirds, meaning there is plenty of action for players and spectators.
