The Sydney Swans face the GWS GIANTS this Saturday in the first AFLW Sydney Derby and have urged fans to get to the SCG, with the ground hosting the first ever AFLW match.
The fixture, which is the Swans Marn Grook match as part of the AFLW's Indigenous Round, is the first women's match between the cross-town rivals. There's plenty to play for, alongside city bragging rights, with both sides chasing their first wins of the season.
Representatives of both the Swans and GIANTS and invited guests launched the first Sydney Derby match-up at a breakfast at Circular Quay on Wednesday morning. The event also celebrated the growth of the women's game in NSW and featured a panel including AFLW General Manager, Nicole Livingstone, Swans players Brooke Lochland and Lisa Steane and GIANTS Nicola Barr and Alicia Eva.
And here’s what its’s all about! @NicLiv celebrates fact that 540 women players now part of @aflwomens - all 18 clubs, big future ahead with focus on full integration into AFL, getting fans & audiences connected with these amazing #aflw athletes - @SydneySwansAFLW @GWSGIANTS pic.twitter.com/CThdndn9nW

Sydney Swans co-Captain Brooke Lochland, will get her first taste of Derby action this Saturday, with the Victorian moving to the harbour city to join the Swans for their first season.
Playing on the hallowed turf of the SCG is also something Lochland is looking forward to.
"To have the Swans and the GIANTS be able to play on the SCG is very special," Lochland said.
"We are really excited, hopefully there is a huge crowd there and supporters from both clubs fill the stands. We want to make football in Sydney huge and playing at grounds like the SCG will help with that."
Lochland is also working with the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and developing the next generation of talent across the Academy system.
"We just want to make football in Sydney huge ...we've spoken a lot this morning about the growth of the game up here in NSW, and I think we're on the right path," Lochland said.
"The young kids in the crowd just calling out the girls' names and knowing who we are – we're still in a new team so that was really special and it's just so much more than football."
"I think many people have said there is talent up here, I see it first hand. There's no doubt that in two or three years time we will have a lot of girls drafted out of our academies (QBE Sydney Swans Academy and the GIANTS Academy). We are really passionate about growing the talent."
Saturday's Round 3 match between the Swans and GIANTS kicks off at 2.40pm at the SCG. Adult tickets start from just $10 and juniors U18 enter free with a valid $0 ticket. Click HERE to purchase tickets.
