Known as one of the league’s most prolific tacklers, Sydney Swans midfielder Jude Bolton has had his fair share of collisions on field in his previous 299 games.

Bolton has laid an astonishing 1389 tackles in his 13-year career, but one clash stands out for the Swans veteran.

While playing for Port Melbourne in a VFL match in 2000, Bolton collided with Collingwood reserves first-gamer Rhyce Shaw, and it’s a clash both players - now team mates and members of the Swans leadership group - have not forgotten.

“The two of us crashed into each other going after the footy and the two of us just went ‘bang’ and just collided,” Bolton said.

“I actually broke Rhyce Shaw’s collarbone in his first game for Collingwood.”

Swans defender Shaw said he also vividly remembered the clash, and recalled coming off second best.

“I remember my very first game in the Collingwood reserves, Jude was playing for Port Melbourne and I was playing in the reserves,” Shaw told SwansTV.

“Jude Bolton put his head over the ball and broke my collarbone.

“I remember Jude very fondly and he does have a very hard head.”
