The Sydney Swans have launched their inaugural AFLW Pride Guernsey which the team will wear this week as part of the AFLW's Pride Round.

The Swans will wear the rainbow strip to face Essendon at IKON Park on Saturday afternoon in the team's first ever game as part of Pride Round.

The guernsey is the same design that the men's team have worn the past two AFL Pride Games, a fixture the club has played in since 2016.

The Sydney Swans is proud to be a community leader in diversity and inclusion. The club was the first in the AFL to launch a Diversity Action Plan (DAP) with LGBTIQA+ Pride one of the four pillars of the plan.

Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said the AFLW Pride Round is another opportunity to amplify the message that everyone is welcome at the football.

“Our club is incredibly proud of the work we have done to ensure everyone feels safe, welcome, and included at the football,” Harley said.

“Through initiatives such as the launch of our DAP, being the first professional sporting club to participate in the Mardi Gras Parade, and of course having our men’s team play in the Pride Game for the past seven years, we have been able to demonstrate a continued commitment to LGBTIQA+ communities.

“We are thrilled to be taking another step in that journey and can’t wait to see our women’s team run out in our Pride Guernsey as part of the AFLW’s Pride Round.”

Sydney Swans leadership group member Lisa Steane said the team is looking forward to wearing the rainbow strip this weekend.

"Pride Round is about being proud of who you are, accepting others for who they are and celebrating each and everyone’s uniqueness. It’s about equality, representation and love," Steane said.

"I am so honoured to pull on the inaugural Sydney Swans Pride Jumper and so proud to be a part of this amazing club."
