Last time they met
With a place in the 2008 preliminary final against Geelong on the line, both clubs were desperate for victory. Both teams had a promising start to the season.
After fighting it out in a tough first half, the Bulldogs were able to split the gap open in the third term, kicking five goals to the Swans’ nil.
Strong performances from Barry Hall, Brett Kirk and Paul Bevan were not enough to steer the red and white to victory as the Bulldogs’ relentless pressure proved too much for the Swans to overcome. The Bulldogs applied 66 tackles to the Swans’ 54.
A lack of forward goal-kicking options hurt the Swans – there were only six goal scorers for the match, including Barry Hall who finished with four. In contrast, the Bulldogs side featured 11 separate goal scorers.
The Western Bulldogs managed to edge out the Swans to hold on for a 37-point victory.
