Round 1 v GWS
The inaugural Sydney Derby between the Sydney Swans and GWS, played on a stand-alone weekend to commence the 2012 AFL Premiership Season, was an ideal opening to the Swans’ 2012 premiership campaign.
The Swans - who were the away team at ANZ Stadium - had to work hard early but were able to secure early bragging rights over their new cross-town rivals.
In the end GWS was no match for a hard-tackling, skilful Swans team in a match played in front of 38,203 fans.
Midfielders Kieren Jack (30 possessions) and Josh Kennedy (27 touches and the Brett Kirk Medal recipient) led the way as the Swans kicked five goals to nil in the third quarter to set up a first-round 63-point victory.
