Sydney Swans forward Tom Papley has said his side is looking forward to season 2023 and that the young Swans have 'grown' over the pre-season.
Papley, who spoke toTriple M's Rush Hour program on Thursday, said the Swans have moved on from the Grand Final loss and are ready to tackle the challenges of season 2023.
"We have moved on, we have reviewed it, we failed that test but we are ready to bounce back this year and go again," Papley said.
"We have trained well this preseason and we are looking forward to this year and seeing how we can improve when we go up against the better sides."
With eight players from the 2022 Grand Final under 22 years of age, there's plenty of excitement plus room for growth at Sydney and Papley spoke of the talented young brigade the Swans have.
"Some boys have put on a bit of size and the younger boys are getting smarter and wiser and it’s good to see," Papley said.
“Logan McDonald has come a long way, he’s put on some size as a key forward it’s obviously a tough position in your first few years, I think he can go pretty well this year," Papley said.
"There’s also Dylan Stephens and Errol Gulden, the young 20-22 year olds, there’s a fair few of them in there. Chad (Warner) can go to that next level again, he’s obviously an inside bull and that X-factor we need in the mid field that can explode from the stoppages and kick a goal."
Papley also lauded the experienced trio of Callum Mills, Dane Rampe and Luke Parker who Papley said "just keep rocking up every pre-season and doing every session."
While the Swans first game of the season is on the road, against the Gold Coast Suns, the team will return to the SCG in Round 2 against Hawthorn on Sunday March 26.
The last time Sydney played at their home ground they recorded a memorable Preliminary Final win over Collingwood in front of a sold-out Sydney crowd.
The atmosphere at the SCG was electric and Swans fans turned out in numbers and Papley said the members and fans gave just as much as energy as the playing group did that night.
"I don’t think I have ever heard anything like that at the SCG before, it was pretty crazy," Papley said.
"It was a great game and great atmosphere and that’s why you play the game. We are looking forward to seeing our fans this year, whether at the SCG or when we are away, we always get great support."
