The Sydney Swans have continued to show their support by taking part in one of the biggest events on the LGBTIQA+ calendar, proudly marching in their sixth consecutive Mardi Gras parade on Saturday night.
As part of the celebration of WorldPride in the Harbour City, the Swans were also joined by the Los Angeles Rams, in what represents the first time the event has been held in the southern hemisphere and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the first Australian Gay Pride Week.
The parade returned to Oxford Street, after the past two years saw the occasion held at the club's home ground, the SCG, and the streets were alight with plenty of colour to mark the return.
Sydney Swans AFLW players Brooke Lochland, Lisa Steane, Bella Smith, Alana Woodward and Maddy Collier were joined by Sydney Swans Executive Management and staff, the club’s official LGBTIQA+ supporter group, the Rainbow Swans, representatives from key partners including QBE and HSBC and Rams Cheerleaders and mascot ‘Rampage’.
Pride Game will return to the SCG in 2023 with the Sydney Swans to host the annual fixture when we take on St Kilda in Round 13.
The game was established between the two sides in 2016 to celebrate diversity and inclusion, and ensure everyone feels welcome at the football.
The match is also an opportunity to listen, learn and highlight stories from the LGBTIQA+ community.
HBSC, the Official Pride Game Partner of the Sydney Swans, will be bringing a host of colourful activities to the match.
