Our all-white playing kit is guaranteed to turn heads at Gather Round, but there’s an important reason behind it …
We’re donating the red from the uniform to our partner, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, to highlight the need for blood donations.
With demand for blood at a 12-year-high, Australia experiencing record demand for plasma and a double long weekend approaching, including Easter and ANZAC Day, Lifeblood’s blood stocks will be under increased pressure.
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said the club is proud to support Lifeblood’s important work.
“We are really proud to have a Lifeblood donor centre at Sydney Swans HQ and I would like to thank our members and fans who have supported their vital work by donating blood,” Harley said.
“I was surprised to learn that every week, Australia needs around 33,000 donations to meet demand. This week we have made a symbolic donation of the red from our guernseys and we are encouraging footy fans to join us and help bring back the red by rolling up their sleeves to donate in the lead-up to Easter.”
Lifeblood will make donating blood even easier over Gather Round, bringing their mobile blood donor centre to Adelaide Oval from 10–13 April. So, if you’re going to the game, you can bring back the red without even leaving the precinct.
