The Sydney Swans will take a mix of experience and youth into Saturday’s inaugural AFLX tournament at Allianz Stadium.
Dane Rampe, Sam Reid, Nick Smith and Jake Lloyd have all been named as part of a 20-man squad for Saturday’s round robin competition.
It will be an opportunity for fans to see new recruits Tom McCartin, Jake Brown, James Bell and Angus Styles in action for the first time.
AFLX is played on a rectangular field with 10 players taking part in each game – seven on the ground at any one time and three interchange players.
The Swans will play in two games of 20 minutes against the Western Bulldogs (4.38pm AEDT) and Gold Coast (6.30pm AEDT).
Rampe said he was looking forward to seeing how the new concept went on Saturday.
“I think it is going to be a mixture between getting that aerobic capacity right and then executing your skills,” Rampe said.
“I wouldn’t count out the big men being in play, with it being a shorter ground, the impact that a big mark can have upon the play in terms of slowing the game down.
“I think there will be a role for fast paced men and then obviously the big guys as well.”
