Lance Franklin remains a chance to take on Hawthorn at the MCG on Friday night but teammate Dan Hannebery has been ruled out of the contest.
Hannebery has not played since a groin injury saw him left out of the Round 6 side that defeated Geelong.
Head of Football Tom Harley said the 27-year-old would not line up against the Hawks.
“The short week will go against Dan unfortunately – we have built the program with the focus on the Fremantle game the following Saturday,” Harley said.
“Dan is progressing really well through that, so he is ticking all the boxes he needs to at the moment.
“He is running and will build that up at the back end of this week to work his way into skills next week. Hopefully we see him play against the Dockers.”
Franklin will continue to push his case to face his former side with Wednesday’s training session set to test the star forward.
“Lance is definitely trending in the right direction and he has done some running,” Harley said.
“We have our main training session on Wednesday night and the expectation is that Lance will train and put his hand up to play.
“If he is fit and available he will play, he has just got to get through training on Wednesday night.”
Defender Lewis Melican is continuing his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury with the young defender expected to miss at least the next fortnight.
Sam Reid is at the halfway mark of his recovery and has responded well to surgery on his injured quad.
“Sam has recovered really well from the surgery and doesn’t have any pain, so he is starting to get going again,” Harley said.
“We will be respecting the injury and the fact he had surgery, so we are still sticking to that eight-to-ten week time frame.
“His recovery from the surgery has been outstanding.”
