Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper and senior coach John Longmire provided an update on the injury list ahead of Round 3 against Melbourne.
No injury concerns came out of the Sydney Swans win against Hawthorn on Sunday afternoon. A few players experienced cramping due to the warm conditions, however it is expected that all players from the game will be available for selection in Round 3.
The VFL team were defeated by Box Hill in their VFL season opener, with defender Lewis Melican the only injury concern to come out of the game. Lewis came from the ground in the fourth quarter with a tight groin muscle and he will be assessed further by the medical team this week.
Sam Reid
Sam is still recovering from a glute strain suffered in our practice match against Carlton and is yet to return to full training. He had a good running session on Wednesday, so we're hopeful that he is starting to turn the corner. Hopefully he has pulled up alright, but he is not 100 percent and is still a few weeks away. We want him to get some good training under his belt now.
Robbie Fox
Robbie is nearing a return to play from his calf strain. He will commence team training this week, with a view to then determine his return to play match.
Ryan Clarke
Ryan is also nearing a return to play from his hamstring strain. He completed a large volume session last week in preparation for return to play as well as some modified team skills. We expect him to train fully this week ahead of a return to play in Round 4.
Tom Hickey
Tom has commenced introductory skills based work and ruck craft. The plan this week is to build his running volume and speed before progressing into modified team skills. We are being cautious with him and it will be a slower build for Tom.
Sam Wicks
Sam is completing a solid running conditioning block whilst he remains limited in his shoulder movements. He is training hard and at good intensity to regain match fitness. He will be reviewed by his specialist in 2 weeks before he commences any upper body based work.
Jacob Konstanty
Jacob continues to progress on his return from shin soreness. He is still building his running volume and agility, whilst also focussing on his aerobic conditioning.
