Ben McGlynn is embarking on another Steptember campaign, but this time around will be getting some help as clubmates also put their best foot forward for the worthy cause.
McGlynn undertook the challenge of clocking 10,000 steps a day during the month of September last year, with the aim of raising valuable funds for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
The 31-year-old had no problem reaching the daily target on the way to raising $4200 after the 28 days, thanks to donations made by family, friends and supporters.
McGlynn's fundraising power will be magnified with members of the development group joining the campaign including NEAFL coach Rhyce Shaw.
The group has been divided into five teams with McGlynn, George Hewett, Colin O'Riordan, Callum Mills and Isaac Heeney chosen as team captains.
Each team have set itself a fundraising target of $2000 but McGlynn's confident they'll be able to raise more than that by the end of the campaign.
"It's obviously my second year now having a go at it...hopefully the development group get a bit out of it as well," McGlynn said.
"It's something I feel strongly about and something that I want to help out as much as I can.
"We've set ourselves a target of $10,000...but I'm sure with a bit of competition between staff and players we can raise a bit more to go towards equipment and services for people living with condition."
Cerebral palsy is a permanent life-long ailment which targets the physical condition of the sufferer, effecting movement and posture.
It affects about 34,000 Australians, mainly children, and is close to McGlynn’s heart having seen a family member deal with the debilitating condition since early childhood.
Each team member will be given a pedometer to measure the amount of steps covered.
McGlynn managed around 20,000 steps on given training day so they'll have little trouble reaching the daily target.
Days off will prove the most challenging.
"Last year I had the birth of my son so it was easy to get out with the pram and walk around," he added.
"Now he's walking it's a bit harder to get out the house. It's good we have the development boys and a team to help share the load."
Donors have the choice of either committing to set amounts, sums underlined by what equipment and services can be purchased by the donation, or tailor a value which best suits them.
