Swans forward Sam Reid believes silencing an often “hostile” crowd will assist greatly in accounting for Fremantle in Saturday’s qualifying final.

Reid, coming off a standout performance in the Swans’ 63-point win over Gold Coast, was already looking forward to next week’s trip to Perth where the Swans take on minor premier Fremantle for a one-way ticket to the Preliminary Final.

The 23-year-old, who kicked three goals from 25 disposals and 11 marks against the Suns, said the sooner you can “shut the home crowd up” the better especially in a high-intensity, high stakes final.

“I think I’ve only lost there once or twice in my career,” Reid said on Sunday at an SCG recovery session.

“I’ve had some enjoyable moments over there with a quiet crowd which is pretty rare but if you can get on top you can shut that crowd up a bit.

“It’s shutting down there entire team altogether, getting on top of the scoreboard and beating them...that's the best way of shutting them up.”

The Swans have finished off the season strongly with four consecutive wins at an average of 65 points, but against lower ranked sides which has prompted some to ask how that perceived form would stand up against finals bounds teams.

The Swans’ pressure and hunger in and around the contest has been impressive and back to a level pleasing to the playing group which has Reid glowing with confidence.

While there’s still room for improvement, the Swans know exactly what it will take to defeat the ladder leaders at Domain Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

“We’ve got a pretty good idea of what makes us a good team and what wins us games of footy,” Reid added.

“And that’s that high defensive game, that high pressure footy we can bring and good ball use going forward where we can run and spread hard.

“We know that stands up no matter who we’re playing.”

Reid, alongside Harry Cunningham’s three goals, was the highest contributor for the Swans on a scoresheet boasting 11 individual goal-kickers including Lance Franklin who chipped in with one.

Despite the spearhead’s limited impact, Reid says Franklin will be back to his best come finals with now a full game under his belt since returning from a back injury.
