The Sydney Swans will be without Michael Talia for at least the next two months, after scans revealed his foot injury is worse than first thought.
Talia limped from the ground in the final quarter of the Swans’ win over Collingwood.
Swans General Manager of Football Tom Harley says it’s disappointing news after a solid pre-season from the new recruit.
“Michael suffered quite a serious foot injury toward the end of the game, to his Lisfranc ligament – they call it the ACL of the foot. He’s suffered a partial tear in that and also some bone displacement in his foot,” Harley said on the HCF injury update.
“He’ll be out for eight weeks and potentially up to 12, so it’s disappointing news for Mick. He played really well and has settled into the club really well.
“I’m sure that apart from the support we will put around Mick to help him through this, he will rehab as aggressively as he can to hopefully have an impact in the back half of the season.”
It is better news for Dan Hannebery who received a heavy knock to the head in the same match. Hannebery suffered a mild concussion but will be available to play this week, as will Lance Franklin who played out the game after copping a knock to his shoulder.
Experienced duo Ted Richards and Ben McGlynn will also be available for selection for Sunday’s clash with Carlton, after both returned from injury in the NEAFL practice match.
Meanwhile San Naismith’s run of unfortunate luck continues after the 23-year-old suffered a broken hand at training during the week – the same week he was due to return from injury.
Naismith’s training will be restricted for the next two-to-three weeks as he recovers.
