The Sydney Swans and St Kilda headed across the Tasman on ANZAC Day for the first home-and-away match played on international soil in Wellington, New Zealand.
In front of a crowd of 22,546 at Westpac Stadium, the Swans survived a late Saints’ fightback to grind out a 16-point win in slippery conditions.
Dan Hannebery (30 disposals) won the best on ground medal as the player best exemplifying the ANZAC spirit.
Fellow midfielders Luke Parker, Josh Kennedy and Jarrad McVeigh were also strong contributors, while Parker and Ben McGlynn each booted two goals.

A seven-goal-to-one opening quarter set up a convincing 60-point win over the Brisbane Lions on a sunny May afternoon at the SCG.
It was the perfect start to co-captain Jarrad McVeigh’s 200th game for the club as the Swans cruised to victory over the final three quarters.
McVeigh was at his usual consistent best collecting 28 disposals, while Dan Hannebery (32 disposals), Kieren Jack (29) and Lewis Jetta (21 and two goals) produced throughout the afternoon.
In Jed Lamb’s first match, the win moved the Swans to five wins and a loss for the year and back into the top four.
