A vibrant dragon dance performance will take place on the SCG ahead of Sydney’s Round 15 match against West Coast, as we celebrate the Chinese community and their contribution to our game.
Be sure to secure your seat and arrive early to witness the performance.
The Jin Wu Koon dragons will also loop in and out of the crowd along Driver Avenue ahead of the match.
Jin Wu Koon is one of Australia’s oldest dance troupes, founded in Sydney in 1977. The troupe aims to bring together art, culture and sport in progressive dev elopement of an ancient dance.
Dragon dancing emerged more than 1,400 years ago and is said to drive away evil spirits and bring luck to the audience.
In the lead-up to the match, on Friday June 23, the AFL will launch the book Celestial Footy: the Story of Chinese Heritage Aussie Rules by author Patrick Skene.
The book explores the contribution of Chinese Australians to Australian football and profiles players over several decades, including some who have pulled on the red and white.
Then on Saturday, June 24, to celebrate the Duanwu Festival, the Swans have extended 2,500 tickets to attend the match against West Coast to people who are new to the AFL.
