Swans Fantasy: Round 6
Swans Fantasy team captains debate who to buy, keep and trade ahead of the Swans' round six clash
What did you take out of our round four match, Fantasy -ise?
Lotts: What a way to bounce back to form after defeating last year’s grand finalists Fremantle. It was great to see six players all post scores over 100 including some of the usual suspects McVeigh (DEF/MID $482,420), Franklin (FWD $397,600), Kennedy (MID $492,906) and Hannebery (MID $431,022). These guys are in a lot of Fantasy teams this year so I’m sure there were quite a few happy coaches out there after their performances last weekend.
Sub-elite Legends: The biggest thing I took from round 5 was that tackle pressure equates to big fantasy scores. The Swans are normally right up near the top for tackles and pressure acts in the AFL and showed some of their best pressure against Freo. Benny McGlynn pumped out a ridiculous 153 points on the back of 12 tackles to go with his 24 touches and 2 goals.
Who’s your Swans player of the week?
Lotts: How could you look past Benny McGlynn (FWD $434,638)? The pocket rocket scored a career high 153 Fantasy points, so he is my much deserved player of the week. I was tossing up whether to put Benny in my forward line as soon as he started training – and starring – in the midfield. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t do it but he may just find his way into my team this week after that performance.
Sub-elite Legends: I definitely gave Benny Mcglynn the 3 Brownlow votes as well Lotts, but I also have to mention Josh Kennedy who doesn’t often do the flashy stuff but gets through a mountain of work. On the weekend he had 38 touches, 21 of those contested and a goal and really set the tone for the match. 123 Fantasy points isn’t too bad either!
Which Swans player would you choose as your captain for the next game?
Lotts: It’s about time I got this right. Thank you Josh Kennedy! So I’m going to hold on to a good thing while I’ve got it and go for Joey again this week. He’s scored 113 and 123 in his last two matches so he’s in good form and is a safe bet for the captaincy nod this week.
Sub-elite Legends: I have been wrapping up Jarrad McVeigh (DEF/MID $482,420) for weeks and he scored his second consecutive ton on the weekend. He seems to be finding his gear and hasn’t scored below 83 for the season so is a safe bet. Ever since Jeremy Laidler has been playing off the half-back line, Macca has seen more time through the midfield and I think he will use the large expanses of the MCG to devastating effect this weekend.
Next up is Roosy’s Melbourne at the MCG, who are the players to look out for from the Demons?
Lotts: Roosy’s got his men firing just in time for his first match against his former club with a win and a narrow loss in their last two matches. Leading the way for the Demons is their captain Nathan Jones (MID $510,883) who’s in career best form this year, averaging 110 Fantasy points a match. He’s notched up scores of 147, 129 and 115 this season so he’s one to keep an eye on.
Sub-elite Legends: Daniel Cross (MID $472,450) has flown a little under the radar despite a fairly solid start to the season. The former Bulldog is a proven Fantasy performer and has average 91.6 points a game during his first season through the Dees midfield. Chris Dawes (FWD $285,827) is another worth a look. Historically he isn’t a huge Fantasy scorer but as the number 1 forward for the Demons and priced at a very reasonable $285,827, he could be a handy stepping-stone to raise some cash for a higher averaging forward further down the track.
Any changes this week for your team?
Lotts: Tough one. I want to make a few trades this week but money is tight so I may have to bide my time and let my rookies hit their peak before cashing in. I want to trade out Tom Langdon (DEF/MID $282,923) but I can’t find an appropriate trade so I may have to hold on for another week. I also didn’t go ahead with the Brodie Grundy (RUC $313,038) to Hamish McIntosh (RUC $362,887) swap last week which I’m kicking myself about so that may be my one and only trade this week.
Sub-elite Legends: I am pretty keen to bring in an underpriced premium this week so I have opted to upgrade the Demon’s Dom Tyson (MID $356,481) who has risen nearly $140K and starting to peak out to the undervalued Dane Swan (MID $537,486) who has dropped nearly 100K since round 1.
