Premiership defender Ted Richards will play on in 2016 after signing a new deal with the Sydney Swans.

Richards, who has enjoyed a stellar season in his 14^th at AFL level, has committed to a new one year contract.

The 32-year-old said he was excited to be lining up in the red and white again next season.

“I still think I’m capable of playing some bloody good football,” Richards said.

“Footy comes down to enjoyment, passion and capability. For a lot of guys injuries bring on the end of their careers. Fortunately for me I’ve played almost 100 consecutive games without missing.

“I knew physically I was capable and it was just a matter of sitting down and working it out.”

General Manager of Football Tom Harley said it was pleasing to have Richards sign on for another season.

“Ted has been really resilient and over the past few years he has averaged about 22 games a season,” Harley said.

“His form has been pretty solid this season and his resilience is great so when he met with the coach and I a couple of weeks ago and said he was keen to go on we got the deal done.

“One thing you can’t buy is experience and we are certainly happy that he is going to go around again in 2016.”

Richards has played 252 games, 219 of those with the Swans since joining the club at the start of the 2006 season.
