A record number of members have joined the Red and White, with the Sydney Swans today breaking its all-time membership record and pushing past 62,000 members.
In the club’s 149th season in the VFL/AFL, the Swans have surpassed their previous club record of 61,912 members, which was reached in 2019.
Sydney first exceeded 50k members back in 2016, with 56,523 paid up and proud members.
The growth of the passionate Sydney Swans fan base comes off the back of an AFL Grand Final appearance last season and the introduction of our first ever AFLW team.
The member record also follows the club moving into its new home earlier this year, Sydney Swans HQ at the Royal Hall of Industries – a new home which members have embraced before and after games.
Sydney Swans Chief Executive Officer, Tom Harley, thanked the loyal members who have continued to pledge their support to the club.
“This is a significant milestone that our club is really proud of. Since relocating in 1982 our club has built a tremendous supporter base in Sydney, while maintaining a deep connection to our heritage in South Melbourne,” Harley said.
“I want to personally thank the 62,000 plus members who have signed up this season, especially those who have stood by us through thick and thin. Whether it’s at the SCG, in Melbourne, or cheering from home or afar, we hear you and we are grateful for your support.
“While this milestone is significant, we will not rest on our laurels. We will continue to push to our overall membership goal of 65,000 by the end of this season. Footy is better as a member and we look forward to welcoming more fans to experience what it means to be a member of the Sydney Swans.”
The Sydney Swans membership record follows the club achieving the highest AFLW membership tally across the league last year, which marked the club’s inaugural season in the competition.
