Swans midfielder Jarred Moore and ruckman Dan Currie have tied for the Mulrooney Medal, awarded at a function in Canberra on Wednesday evening.

The Mulrooney Medal is awarded to the best and fairest player in the NEAFL Eastern Conference.

Reserves coach Henry Playfair, who attended the awards, said he was proud of both players for their successful seasons.

“Jarred and Dan have both had very different seasons, but their biggest strength has been their consistency,” he said.

“The Reserves had a great year and Jarred and Dan have both played a big role in that."

Moore is now a two-time Mulrooney medallist, having also claimed the honour in 2007.

It has been a frustrating year for the 25-year-old, who has managed just three senior appearances in 2011.

Despite his challenges, Playfair praised Moore’s attitude and resilience.

“Playing in the Reserves isn’t necessarily where Jarred wants to be, but to his credit, he hasn’t let that affect him," Playfair said.

“He has lead from the front and set a positive example for all our players in the Reserves, by digging in and only worrying about the things he can control.

“He has used his experience at senior level to help the development of our players, and for me, it has been like having an extra coach on the field. His leadership has been outstanding."

In his fifth season on the Swans list, Currie had his most promising season yet, before being struck down late in the year with a foot injury.

After a slow start to the season, Playfair said he was impressed with Currie’s mid-year improvement.

“He added some strings to his bow and improved as a marking forward. His contested marking improved and he started to have an impact all over the ground," he said.

“It was shame he suffered the injury when he did, because he became an important option for us up forward and started to knock on the door of senior selection.

“He works hard, is disciplined and his preparation is first class, so he is another player who sets a really good example for our young players.”

The Swans Reserves booked a spot in the NEAFL Eastern Conference Grand Final last weekend with a strong win over Ainslie.

They will meet the winner of this weekend’s preliminary final between Ainslie and Eastlake, in the Conference Final on September 17.
