Dan Hannebery wants his actions to speak louder than his words in season 2016.

The 24-year-old, who was one of three new additions to the Sydney Swans’ leadership group, is already a vocal team member with a strong voice on match days and at training sessions.

But instead of what Hannebery describes as “ranting and raving”, the ball-winner wants to focus his attention on putting his words of encouragement to better use.

“For me now it’s not so much about being vocal but trying to, one-on-one, give guys some feedback that they can take away with them,” he said

“It’s an area I think I’ve taken leaps and bounds in this pre-season … I want to try and steer and direct guys rather rant and rave.”

It’s not only his voice that will be the hallmark of Hannebery’s developing leadership style, but also his on-field performance, which Hannebery believes will be the most effective way to help drive the group this season.

Hannebery enjoyed his best season to date in 2015, winning the AFLPA Champion Player of the Year while finishing second in the Bob Skilton Medal count behind Josh Kennedy.

He also finished fifth in the Brownlow Medal count, his equal best finish in the league’s most coveted award.

The No. 4 has set his sights on another solid season, which Hannebery says is also a way of repaying his teammates’ faith in him.

“The other stuff away from the field and after training, like helping the younger guys, is important also,” he added.

“But if you look at the best leaders across the AFL, they always set a high standard at training and on match day.

“The most important thing is your performance every week … that’s something I’ll try and maintain.”

Dane Rampe and Heath Grundy joined Hannebery as new additions to the Swans’ eight-man leadership group, following a peer-reviewed voting process during the team’s pre-season training camp in Coffs Harbour earlier this month.

Jarrad McVeigh and Kieren Jack will remain co-captains, with Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Nick Smith rounding out the group.
