The Sydney Swans would like to pay tribute to former player Austin Robertson Jr, who has died at the age of 80.

Robertson played 18 games for South Melbourne in 1966, booting an impressive 60 goals to be named the club’s leading goalkicker that year.

But it’s the Western Australian’s career playing for Subiaco for which he is best-known, having played 251 games for the club in the 1960s and ‘70s, and being crowned its all-time leading goal scorer with 1,211 goals.

The star forward won the Bernie Naylor Medal eight times as the WAFL's leading goalkicker, having averaged 4.83 goals per game, and played in the 1973 WAFL premiership.

Roberston was named full-forward in Subiaco’s Team of the Century and in 2015 was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Four years following the Hall of Fame honour, Austin Robertson Jr was once again etched in the Swans history books. Together with his uncle Harold Robertson and father Austin Robertson Sr, the “Goalkicking Robertsons” were inducted to the Swans Heritage List.

Harold Robertson kicked 93 goals in 64 games between 1917 and 1923, and he was part of the 1918 Premiership team. In 1919, he topped the club’s goalkicking with 38 goals and in a game against St Kilda, he smashed the record for the most goals kicked in a VFL game, kicking three goals in the first half and 11 in the second half.

Harold’s younger brother Austin, also known as Ocker, was also a talented goalkicker. After Harold retired, Austin played 154 games for the Swans, kicked 250 goals and was the leading goal scorer in 1929, 1930 and 1931.

On April 29, 1943, Austin and his wife Dorothy welcomed a son, also named Austin. In Austin Jr’s combined 279 games for Subiaco in the WAFL, the Swans and WA, he kicked 1,315 goals at an average of 4.7 goals a game, making him one of the greatest goalkicker's in the game's history.

The club extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
