Micky O's magic day: Bolton
Swans co-captain Craig Bolton says he and his teammates were fortunate to share in club legend Michael O’Loughlin’s 300th game
The Swans ensured the man known as Magic celebrated in style with a 55-point win against Richmond at the MCG to keep their finals chances alive.
Speaking before the Swans’ recovery session at Lakeside Oval on Monday, Bolton said it had been a “huge” day for everyone involved with the club.
“You can’t put into words what Mick’s done for this place. I think it’s good for the club as a whole – the supporters were able to get involved yesterday and past players… it was just a great win for everyone involved,” he said.
“I think everyone who played yesterday was really lucky to be a part of Mick’s 300th. There were some guys who missed out, like Leo Barry and Amon Buchanan, who have played a lot of footy with Mick and would have liked to be there.
“For us, it was a privilege to play in that game and I’m glad that we were able to perform and get the win.”
Bolton said the post-match celebrations were low-key, with the Swans contenting themselves with the glow that accompanies a stirring win.
The Swans’ co-captain said O’Loughlin, 32, who booted two goals to go with his 19 possessions, was likely to be “sore and battered” after his efforts.
“To his [credit], he’s just one of those blokes who keeps pulling up. He’s one of those blokes who can hardly walk during the week but on the weekend, he manages to come out and play his role really well,” Bolton said.
