Head of Football Tom Harley has provided an update on day one of trade talks among all 18 clubs from Monday in Melbourne.
Ryan Clarke
Typically the first day of trade period is picking up the conversations we have had and we haven’t with North yet at this stage. I have to duck off to a couple of meetings and Kinnear Beatson is still here. We will pick that up at the right time.
Dan Hannebery
We just had a quick chat with the Saints. At the very early stage most clubs have a lot on and so we are working through priorities with that so they are clear and we are clear on where we see things. We are still confident that a deal would get done and we still have another nine days to go.
Nic Newman
We haven’t met with North today, it might happen with Kinnear this afternoon but right now we haven’t. We are aware of North’s interest in Nic and they are aware of our interest in Ryan. It would be convenient, those straight swaps don’t happen quite as much as they should perhaps. But time will tell.
What has unfolded today
If we cut to the chase the discussions I was involved in today were St Kilda with Dan and working with Geelong on Gary Rohan. They are all progressing in the right space and we don’t see anything too untoward with both of those. I am sure there will be further discussions later on this afternoon and as the days progress.
Gary Rohan
It is isolated. There is a number of picks being bounced around at the minute and we are really keeping all of our options open. We have a couple of players looking to find another home and we are looking to bring a couple in and we are also open to our picks as well as part of trade so plenty of work to go yet.
Trade period strategy
We had a clear strategy in the back half of the year to re-sign some of our key players as well in Jake Lloyd, Allir Aliir and Sam Naismith. For most of the punters who follow it pretty closely it is often not as straight forward as that so you have to be agile and we will keep our options open going forward.
