Sydney Swans AFLW co-captain Lucy McEvoy and Montana Ham enjoyed a special morning with members from Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) as part of their Art Program.

McEvoy and Ham took time out of their busy schedule to bring smiles to some patients faces, as they immersed themselves in a morning of fun, creativity, and teamwork.

It's part of SCHF's Art Program who bring real life experiences to sick kids’ in hospital to help aid their physical, mental and emotional recovery from an illness.

"We were having a play with a brand new idea for our program. Children in hospital often miss out on childhood experiences and we like to bring playful art experiences and artists ideas into the hospital," said Rose Glassenbury, SCHF Artist Educator at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick.

"We would often invite the community around us - such as nurses, doctors, supporters of the hospital, and artists to inform our program.

Sydney Swans mascot, Cyggy, also made a special appearance as the players and participants used their creativity to draw his reflection from the artistic pieces.

"We were very lucky to have Cyggy visit us which was awesome. He came in to help with our art and we got him to reflect in the sculptures we had created (with the players and children)..we had a play with what reflections we could see," Rose said.

McEvoy enjoyed the new experience, taking part in the program and engaging with some of the members in attendance.

"We were just exploring a new art piece today, the mirror kit, and getting to know the kids and having a bit of play around, and seeing what we could build, draw and discover," McEvoy said of the morning.

"You start off by getting a couple of pieces (of the reflective shapes), and you can do it with a partner, and then you can make it as big or as small as you like. You can see it reflect on the paper and you can draw the shadows. Once you start drawing some of the lines and shapes you can see it on the mirror, and it creates some really cool patterns."

Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) joined forces with the Sydney Swans as the team’s Partner Supporting Kids’ Health for the 2023 AFL and AFLW Premiership Seasons.
