Sydney Swans ruck Ally Morphett will be sidelined for at least the remainder of the regular NAB AFLW season after fracturing her hand in the club’s defeat to Hawthorn on Saturday.
Morphett sustained the injury in the fourth quarter with scans confirming a fracture to her scaphoid bone.
Sydney Swans General Manager of Football – AFLW, Kate Mahony, said it was a blow for the team given Morphett’s breakout campaign.
“We really feel for Ally. She has worked incredibly hard to become one the premier rucks in the competition and has been an integral part of our team this year,” Mahony said.
“We know she will work tirelessly behind the scenes to support the playing group in their remaining matches, and we will work with Ally to ensure she has the support she needs.
“We also have full faith in the players who will fill the void for our upcoming games.”
The Swans are preparing for a must-win match against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.
